Pickpocketing vyres: money-making guide
Blood shards are the main reason to pickpocket vyres. With full Rogue equipment, a drop gives you two at once, making this a useful way to earn money while training Thieving. Unlock it at 82 after Sins of the Father, then improve your success rate with the hard Ardougne Diary. Expect long gaps between shards: this method pays in occasional large drops.

Reach Darkmeyer and choose your spot
Use Drakan’s medallion to teleport to Darkmeyer, then head towards Vallessia von Pitt’s house south-east of the Hallowed Sepulchre. She is a convenient target because the Sepulchre bank is nearby and her house keeps you away from roaming sentinels.
Travel through the hostile city in your full vyre noble disguise. Change into Rogue equipment once you are safely at your pickpocketing spot, away from roaming sentinels. Vallessia’s house is a safe spot to pickpocket without the disguise, and a jug of wine spawns on its table. Close the door to restrict her wandering. If your target or another player opens the route again, reposition rather than chasing through the street.
Keep your noble clothing for bank trips through the hostile streets. Once you know the way between the house and the Sepulchre bank, you can restock and get back to pickpocketing quickly.
Double the shard and reduce the interruptions
Wear all five pieces of Rogue equipment. It doubles a successful blood shard drop from one to two, but does not double its chance or the XP. Partial sets do not guarantee the extra shard. The Rogues’ Den equipment requires 50 Thieving and 50 Agility to obtain.
The hard Ardougne Diary improves pickpocket success here without wearing the cloak. The medium diary’s local Ardougne bonus is not enough for Darkmeyer. At 99, wear a Thieving cape for its additional success benefit.
Wear a dodgy necklace and bring spares. It can save you from the damage and stun when a pickpocket fails, so you spend more time stealing and less time healing. Shadow Veil adds another chance to avoid that penalty. It needs 47 Magic, A Kingdom Divided and the Arceuus spellbook; bring a lava staff and cosmic runes if you want to use it.
Bring food you can afford to use regularly. Each failed attempt that gets through your protection deals five damage. Heal while you have enough health to survive the next failure; once you know the routine, you can look into Redemption setups to extend trips.
Clicks and client settings
Make Pickpocket your normal click or tap
Make Pickpocket your normal action on Vallessia before starting. RuneLite and the official mobile app both let you swap it above Talk-to.
RuneLite · Menu Entry Swapper
This plugin is included with RuneLite. Open the plugin configuration sidebar, search for Menu Entry Swapper and turn it on.
- Open its settings. Under NPC Swaps, enable Customizable left- and shift-click.
- Hold Shift and right-click the NPC. Open Swap left-click and choose Pickpocket.
- Release Shift and try one ordinary click. It should pickpocket instead of talking or attacking. Repeat the setup when switching to a different target type if needed.
Official mobile app · Menu Entry Swapper
The mobile app has a built-in menu editor, so you can make Pickpocket the normal tap action there too.
- Long-press the NPC to open its menu, then tap the edit button at the top right.
- Open that NPC’s entries and tap the up arrow beside Pickpocket to put it first.
- Leave the editor and test a normal tap. The top entry is the tap action. Set this up on each device; your RuneLite or other-device swaps do not carry over.
If you still talk, attack or open a menu
Check the selected action with one test click. In RuneLite, make sure you edited the NPC section and Swap left-click, rather than Swap shift-click. Hiding NPC attack options in the game settings removes accidental attacks, but does not move Pickpocket above Talk-to by itself. On mobile, use the NPC’s reset control to undo a bad ordering and set it again. If the edit button is absent, check for an app update; Jagex is investigating cases where it does not appear.
Keep the target still and bank the loot
- Set Pickpocket as your normal click or tap using the menu setup above. Position the camera so you can reach Vallessia and your food without moving far across the screen.
- Keep pickpocketing, replacing a necklace when it breaks and recasting Shadow Veil when it expires. Eat promptly when health is low. When you can safely choose the timing, eat after a successful pickpocket: eating late in a stun can delay your next attempt.
- Bank when supplies or inventory space run low. Deposit the loot, restock food and necklaces, and return using the same safe route.
- A shard drop should give two with the full Rogue set. Bank them on your next supply trip; if you received only one, check that all five pieces are equipped.
What a blood shard average really means
The blood shard chance is 1 in 5,000 successful pickpockets. Failed attempts do not count. With the full Rogue set, the average is two shards per 5,000 successes, arriving together from one rare event. It is not one shard every 2,500 successes.
At 5,000 successes, you still have about a 37% chance of going dry. Use the drop-odds result below to see what a longer session changes. Knights are a better fit if you want coins from every success rather than waiting for a valuable drop.
Your Thieving level and upgrades make a large difference to the number of successes per hour. To check your pace, divide the Thieving XP earned in a full trip by 306.9, then account for the trip length. For example, 76,725 XP in half an hour works out to 500 successes per hour. Include healing and banking time.
Uses average instant-buy prices for supplies and instant-sell prices for loot, after GE tax. Edit a price to use your own offer.
Vyres, elves or dependable coins?
The calculator starts with blood shard value. To include the rest of a session, add the coins and saleable ordinary loot, subtract food, necklaces and spell runes, and enter that hourly balance in Other loot minus supplies. Blood shards are already counted separately.
For an Iron, blood shards maintain an amulet of blood fury; their sale value is usually not the reason for the trip. For a main needing money immediately, Ardougne knights or a production method give more predictable short-session income. Elves offer a more frequent rare roll, with a different price and quest requirement.
